New Barnfield incinerator consultation starts

A new public consultation has begun into a proposed incinerator in Hertfordshire after more environmental details were released.

Veolia Environmental Services submitted the details in its planning application for the energy-from-waste facility at New Barnfield in Hatfield.

They reveal its impact on noise levels at a nearby school and an increase in traffic figures.

Campaigners against the plant say the details strengthen their opposition.

Paul Zukowskyj, from the campaign group Hatfield Against Incineration, said: "The new material gives added weight to the 6,000 objections that were made in the planning consultation."

In a statement, Hertfordshire County Council said that officers would "carefully examine" the application, before presenting a report to the development control committee which would decide whether or not to grant planning permission.

Comments in response to the consultation need to be made by 29 June 2012.
