The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry arrived at the Warner Bros studios in Leavesden in Hertfordshire for its inauguration. As well as the Harry Potter series, Batman and James Bond films have been produced at the site.

The only UK film studio to be operated by a major Hollywood studio, it is also home to an exhibition about the making of Harry Potter.

During a tour of the studio, Flt Lt Wales, as he is known to his RAF colleagues, swapped his Sea King search and rescue helicopter for the Batpod, as featured in The Dark Knight.

William joked about taking over the Batman role with Josh Berger, president and managing director of Warner Brothers UK, Ireland and Spain, telling him: "Christian Bale's getting old and tired... I will stand in if I have to."

From the dangers of Gotham City, the royal party made their way to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Kate's polka-dot dress was somewhat shorter than Hogwarts' traditional wizards' robes.

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling was there for the royal visit and was praised by the duke in a speech he made before officially opening the studios.

After a visit to Ollivanders, the wand-maker based in Diagon Alley, the royal party raised their wands in tribute to Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter in front of some 500 children who had been invited on the special tour.

Scott Heron, 20, from the studio, taught the parents-to-be how to lunge and swish with a wand. After a duel in the Gryffindor common room the second-in-line to the throne claimed he had won - playfully hitting his wife.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry were presented with special wands at the end of the Harry Potter Tour.
