The dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra came to a halt in the middle lane of the eastbound A421

Detectives are looking for a driver who fled after crashing a car and leaving his seriously injured passenger behind.

He was at the wheel of a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra that crashed into a barrier on the eastbound A421 in Kempston at about 13:30 GMT on Sunday.

As emergency services arrived, he ran off towards the Interchange Retail Park.

A woman in her mid-20s, who was in the back seat, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm and leg.

Bedfordshire Police said it believed no-one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved.

The man is described as white, in his late 20s, 5ft 6ins tall, of slight build, bald and wearing dark clothing.

Sgt Ritchie Barker said a number of motorists had to swerve to avoid the stranded vehicle and he was keen to speak to anyone who saw the driver or knows who he is.
