A man has died in an apparent hit-and-run in Dunstable.

The victim, in his 30s, was hit by a vehicle in Southwood Road at about 16:20 BST on Friday. He died at the scene and Bedfordshire Police has launched a murder investigation.

The driver of the vehicle, which is thought to be a dark-coloured Renault Megane, failed to stop.

The force said it believed the crash happened after an earlier "altercation" at shops in nearby Mayfield Road.

Det Insp Alan Page said: "We are currently treating the death as murder and I would urge anyone who saw what happened or has any information about this incident to call police."

Southwood Road was closed overnight but has since reopened.
