A woman pedestrian was killed when she was hit by a double-decker bus.
Police were called to the junction of High Street and Station Road in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, at about 14:30 BST on Saturday.
A witness told the BBC the woman, in her 60s, was trapped under the wheel of the bus - but emergency services "were there within seconds".
Police said she suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Nearby roads were closed for several hours.
Sgt Martin Kemp, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family of the lady who lost her life today.
"It was a very distressing incident and I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we worked at the scene alongside our colleagues from the fire and ambulance service."
An appeal has been made for witnesses and drivers who may have dashcam footage.
