A 77-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Milton Keynes.

Police were called to reports that a woman had been attacked inside a property in Bradwell Road, Loughton, shortly after 08:00 BST on Saturday.

Officers discovered an unconscious woman in her 70s and gave her emergency first aid, before she was taken to hospital where she later died.

The man, who is from Milton Keynes, remains in police custody.

The force said formal identification had not yet taken place, but the woman's next-of-kin had been made aware of her death.

Det Ch Insp Dejan Avramovic, from Thames Valley Police, said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"I appreciate incidents such as this will cause concern in the local community, but I would reassure the public that we are confident that this incident is contained, [and] there is no wider risk to the local community," he said.

He also called for anyone who had any information that may assist its investigation to contact the force.
