Car crashes into front of Stanford-Le-Hope restaurant

Gino's Taverna said no-one from the restaurant was hurt in the crash

A car has been found embedded in a window of a family run restaurant, causing extensive damage.

An image of the crash was shared on the Facebook page, external of Gino's Taverna, on King Street, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex.

Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taking a vehicle without consent.

The business said "luckily" no-one from the restaurant was injured, but the building had been damaged.

"Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase drive through," the restaurant said on Facebook.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said the arrested man was taken to hospital but is now in custody.

"We were called shortly before 03:40 BST to reports a vehicle had been in collision with a building in King Street, Stanford-le-Hope.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us."
