A heavyweight Santa Claus model led to a driver being pulled over for carrying more than his van was legally allowed.

The driver was stopped on the A1(M) near Stevenage in Hertfordshire on Wednesday.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), police wrote: "Santa and his sleigh (Mercedes Sprinter Van) were hot footing it... to set up for Xmas but got a little carried away, over-filling the van by 1.5 tonnes."

The van was confiscated by officers.

The road police unit later added to their post, saying: "PS don't worry kids... Santa still has plenty of time to finish his journey and hop back on a more traditional sleigh soon."
