An elderly man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving after a pedestrian sustained "life-threatening injuries" in a supermarket car park.

The 86-year-old was held after a silver Land Rover Discovery hit a woman at Morrisons on Elder Gate, Milton Keynes, at about 10:55 BST on Monday.

She was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment.

The man was arrested for being "over the specific drug limit", police said.

He has since been released under investigation. The injured woman remains in a critical condition.
