A man who blackmailed a woman and threatened to release a video of her in the shower has been jailed.

Alaur Rahman, from Bedford, pleaded guilty to several offences including blackmail, harassment and threatening to disclose a private sexual film.

The 29-year-old appeared at Luton Crown Court on Thursday and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

Rahman used multiple phones to threaten the victim and warned her he would release the video, taken without her consent, unless she paid him £2,000.

In calls recorded and passed to police, the victim repeatedly told Rahman to leave her alone.

He told her if she did not pay him he would send people to torture her and her family.

Dips Wheeler, an investigation officer in Bedfordshire Police's domestic abuse team, said: "I cannot praise her enough for her bravery in coming forward and putting a stop to his abhorrent behaviour."
