Hertswood Academy reopened on Tuesday after being closed due to "security concerns"

A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with a bomb hoax at a school that caused it to close.

Police were contacted on Friday, shortly after 21:00 BST, after a bomb threat was received by Hertswood Academy, external in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

Officers attended the scene, alongside an explosives detection dog, and several searches of the site took place over the weekend.

The school said it closed on Monday due to "security concerns".

Police said the boy, from Hertfordshire, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of blackmail and had been released on bail while inquiries continued.

Det Insp Beth Hanna, from Hertfordshire Police, said she understood the incident would have been "extremely unsettling for those connected to the school and for the wider community as a whole".
