Videos of cars hitting the bollards have been widely shared online

Users of a road where drivers have repeatedly been filmed crashing into bollards have been invited to share their opinions on its layout.

Part of Woodmere Avenue in Watford was narrowed more than a decade ago to try to deter heavy goods vehicles.

It features width restrictions of 2.1m (7ft) and a central bus lane. Brightly coloured bollards were installed as a temporary measure last year.

A consultation has begun that could see all the posts removed.

The road shot to fame in recent years after videos of crashes there - including a police van hitting the bollards - were shared millions of times online.

New, brightly coloured bollards and slightly wider lanes were installed as a temporary measure in 2022

A series of changes made in 2022 included upgrading the curb, removing one set of bollards, setting the others back slightly and resurfacing the road.

Hertfordshire County Council said at the time it hoped the temporary measures would address the concerns of residents while a longer-term solution was developed.

Four options have been included in a consultation, external on the junction's future, which is open until Sunday, 10 December:

  • No change to the existing layout

  • Use cameras to enforce the existing bus lane

  • Replace the width restriction and bus gate with a weight restriction

  • Replace the width restriction and bus gate with a weight restriction enforced by cameras
