Detectives have made a new appeal for information in a murder investigation five years after an ex-professional goalkeeper disappeared.

Kamil Biecke was last seen on Shaftesbury Road in the Bury Park area of Luton in the early hours of 8 December 2018.

The 34-year-old played for Polish side Baltyk Gdynia until 2013 before moving to the UK three years later.

Police said searches had been carried out at several addresses in the town.

Det Insp Lee Martin said: "I have no doubt there are people in our community who know what happened to him. It could be someone you know."

Mr Biecke was reported missing on 14 December 2016 by his estranged wife, who was unable to contact him.

Officers from the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire major crime unit upgraded his disappearance to a murder investigation in 2019.

Police previously said there were concerns his gambling associations might have led to him being killed and believed he had been involved in "drug-related activity".

He also had links to Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes and Scotland.

Mr Martin said: "Kamil's loved ones deserve answers. Please come forward if you can help us - either directly to the police, or anonymously through Crimestoppers."
