Aylesbury United Football ground could be turned in to housing estate

A football stadium that once hosted an England squad could be turned into a housing estate.
Buckingham Road was the home of Aylesbury United and the team played against Sir Bobby Robson's England side - which included Gary Lineker - to help with preparation for Euro 1988.
Aylesbury United were evicted from the grounds in 2006 and plans for 42 new homes were submitted in 2020.
The plans have been deferred with a decision expected in January.
Ahead of the Euro 1988 preparations, Sir Bobby's side, with players that included Peter Beardsley and Stuart Pearce, took part in the 7-0 win over Aylesbury United.
Lineker had just completed his second season at Barcelona, while John Barnes and Beardsley were fresh from helping Liverpool secure the league title.
Aylesbury United were evicted from their home in 2006 and the grounds have since been abandoned with an overgrown pitch, and graffiti on the stands.
The planning application for the stadium promised a "mix of new homes which integrate with the existing community".
However some residents raised concerns with the plans and said flooding and drainage had not been taken into account for the site which sat next to the River Thames.
Watermead Parish Council called in the plans.
Buckinghamshire Council's planning director will go over the proposals and a decision will be made by January 8, 2024.
