Restrictions will be put in place between junction 10 for Luton airport and junction 13 at Bedford

A 50mph average speed limit will be introduced to a section of the M1 for more than a year so a central reservation can be replaced.

It will be put in place in Bedfordshire between junction 10 for Luton airport and junction 13 at Bedford.

The work will upgrade an 11.2 mile (18 km) stretch of barrier, from the existing metal structure to a new concrete one.

National Highways will begin work on 10 January and finish in spring 2025.

Narrower lanes will also be installed along with CCTV, for the safety of road workers and users.

Nick Wells, National Highways regional sponsor, said the upgrade would "significantly reduce the risk of vehicles crossing over from one carriageway to another".

"We thank road users for their patience while we carry out this upgrade," he added.
