Thames Valley Police were called to reports a man, aged 48, had been found stabbed in Brooklands Square on Thursday

Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing in Milton Keynes have been granted extra time to question a man on suspicion of murder.

The victim, a 48-year-old man, was found in Brooklands Square on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination on Sunday gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the neck.

A 24-year-old man remains in police custody. A woman, 57, arrested on suspicion of assisting a offender, has been released on bail.

Both are from Milton Keynes.

A 27-year-old woman was initially arrested on suspicion of murder before she was released with no further action.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), due to recent contact it had with the victim.

It renewed its appeal for anyone with information or footage of the Brooklands Square and Fen Street area to contact police.
