A man has been charged with arson after a fire caused an estimated £3m worth of damage.

Hertfordshire Police said the charge was related to a fire on Balmoral Drive, Borehamwood, in August 2022.

Perry Aldrich, 25, of Stratfield Road, Borehamwood, was charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

It is alleged that garden waste was set alight and the fire spread to a nearby block of flats.

The police said nobody was seriously injured during the incident.

The case, which was heard at St Albans Magistrates' Court, has been transferred to St Albans Crown Court for a pre-trial hearing on 27 February.
