A railway line has been closed in both directions in order to repair a landslip caused by heavy rainfall.

Trains have been disrupted between Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire and London Marylebone since Tuesday, and on Friday, Chiltern Railways said the section would be shut in both directions.

Buses are replacing trains with an emergency timetable in place, external.

Network Rail has said the repairs will be complete by Tuesday next week.

Engineers said they discovered about 5,000 tonnes of material had slipped along the embankment near Stoke Mandeville.

A spokesperson said 120 nine-metre-long so-called "soil nails" would be installed into the embankment to stabilise the affected area.

Network Rail apologised for the disruption and said it would visit residents to warn them about the engineering activity which it expected to cause some noise.
