An investigation has been launched after a college building was evacuated.

Watford Police were called to West Herts College in Watford, external at 13:46 GMT after three anonymous messages were received by the college's switchboard.

Hertfordshire Police said the messages suggested an explosive device had been placed on the college site.

The building was evacuated and a police cordon was put in place as a precaution.

No suspicious devices were found and staff and students were allowed back into the college just after 15:00 GMT.

The force said the incident was being treated as a hoax and an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the anonymous messages.
