Oil spillage causes two-hour delays on Bedfordshire M1

Drivers face severe delays on the M1 in Bedfordshire after a multi-vehicle collision was reported at 17:22 GMT

A multi-vehicle collision that caused an oil spillage on the M1 has left drivers facing delays of up to two hours.

National Highways said, external the incident happened on the M1 northbound between junction 12 at Toddington and junction 13 at Brogborough in Bedfordshire.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were attending the scene.

In a message posted on X, external, Highways East said lanes one and two would be closed and required resurfacing.

The incident was reported at 17:22 GMT after a collision caused a HGV to rupture its fuel tank, which led to a "significant" amount of diesel spilling over about 100m, across lanes one and two of the carriageway.

National Highways confirmed there had been no injuries from the collision.
