The leader of the Conservative party on Slough Borough Council has been charged with bigamy.

Councillor Pervez Choudhry, of Tuns Lane, Slough, was arrested on Monday and later charged with one count of bigamy.

The 52-year-old defected to the Tories last year after being elected as the Labour candidate for Central Ward.

Mr Choudhry has been released on bail to appear at Maidenhead Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Slough Borough Council said it was a "private matter".
