A Berkshire hospital has had the second busiest week of the year as dozens of people were injured falling over.

The accident and emergency department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading said it treated more than 45 people for fractures and head injuries.

Dr David Mossopp, a consultant for the emergency department, urged people to be careful and wear sensible shoes.

He said the hospital experienced a similar peak at the end of January.

Many of the schools which closed across Berkshire on Thursday reopened on Friday, despite warnings over ice.

Bracknell Forest Council has advised residents not to abuse the 60 community salt bins across the borough.

Meanwhile, Windsor and Maidenhead council said residents could keep up to date with gritting throughout the Royal Borough on social networking site Twitter.
