Slough carnival for royal wedding

A Slough Pentecostal church is celebrating the royal wedding by staging a carnival.

While four street parties have been registered at Slough council, the Christ Embassy will hold a 250-strong procession along the High Street.

With the Union Jack as a theme, the carnival-goers will be dressed in red, white and blue while handing out commemorative gifts to the public.

The national anthem is among the music to be played from the floats.

Three buses will transport the procession from Slough to continue the carnival in Windsor's High Street.

The procession will include drum majorettes and dancing.

Organiser Douglas Agyekum said he will be wearing a Union Jack afro wig during the carnival but added that the wedding also aims to deliver a serious message.

"I believe it is an opportunity to build a nation. At this point in time it brings togetherness and patriotism," he said.

The carnival will start at 1300 BST on 29 April.
