London 2012: Olympic torch to be taken on rowing boat

The Olympic rowing venue at Eton Dorney is on the torch relay route

The Olympic flame will be taken down the River Thames in a rowing boat as part of its 70-day relay around the UK ahead of the London 2012 Games.

After travelling in a rowing boat at Henley-on-Thames on 10 July, the torch will visit towns and villages in Berkshire.

It will travel through Maidenhead to the Eton Dorney Olympic rowing venue.

Slough, Windsor, Ascot and Bracknell are also on the route before before an overnight stop in Reading.

A special celebration event is being planned to mark its arrival in the town.

The following day the torch makes it way towards Basingstoke in Hampshire after going through Theale, Thatcham and Newbury.

The relay will involve 8,000 torchbearers carrying the flame on its journey, starting on 19 May.
