Fruit trees planted for Berkshire orchard scheme

More than 100 fruit trees are being planted at a Berkshire country park as one of several orchard projects in the county, says Wokingham Borough Council.

Varieties of apple, including the Charles Ross and Cox's orange pippin, will be planted at Dinton Pastures Country Park, Hurst.

Three other orchard schemes are planned at Twyford, Wargrave and Swallowfield.

The projects have funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and organised by the Community Council for Berkshire.

The community council said the schemes aim to develop an understanding of the links between growing food and healthy eating.

Two hundred and ninety fruit trees will be planted in total at the four sites.
