Man held over Yolande Waddington murder in Berkshire

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a teenager in Berkshire 45 years ago.

Yolande Waddington, 17, was found strangled in the village of Beenham in October 1966.

Thames Valley Police said a 64-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being questioned.

Miss Waddington's body was discovered six months before the bodies of two nine-year-old girls were found in the same village.

A man was later sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of Jeanette Wigmore and Jacqueline Williams, whose bodies were found in April 1967.

No-one has ever been charged over Miss Waddington's death.

The latest development has brought back memories of the killing.

Resident Glynis Snow said: "I can remember my dad being interviewed, as all my friends' dads were. Everyone was talked to."

Honoria Alison said her daughter was aged 14 at the time.

"She used to ride horses and I said to police 'look I am not going to box her up'.

"They told me not to let anyone get within reach of the horse's reins when she went out."

The man was arrested by officers from the force's major crime review team earlier.
