A top racehorse trainer's Berkshire home has been destroyed in a fire.

Six fire engines were brought in to tackle the fire overnight at Oliver Sherwood's home in Lambourn.

Mr Sherwood, his wife, Tarnya and 17-year-old daughter Sabrina, who were in the house at the time, escaped unhurt from the blaze.

A spokesperson at Mr Sherwood's training yard said: "Sabrina was about to have a bath when she heard crackling in the walls, which were boiling hot."

They added: "Then they saw light under the floorboards.

"They phoned 999 and were told to get out of the house."

A pair of water bowsers were brought in to fight the flames, which took firefighters more than five hours to bring under control.

Half the roof and 40% of the ground floor was destroyed, a fire service spokesman said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
