Motorists and shoppers in Reading are being warned of road closures for the open-top bus parade celebrating Reading FC's promotion to the Premier League.

Friar Street, from the Greyfriars Road junction, Blagrave Street, Valpy Street, The Forbury, Market Place, High Street, and Duke Street are affected.

The closures will be in force from 10:30 BST on Sunday until the parade passes through.

There will also be a celebration at the Madejski Stadium.

A Reading Borough Council spokesman said: "Reading FC will host a celebration event when the players triumphantly return from their tour of the town later that afternoon, including the official trophy presentation and the announcement of the official Player of the Season for 2011/12.

"Brian McDermott and his team take to the road at 12:30 BST and the two open-top buses will make their way to Madejski Stadium for approximately 14:30."

Supt Stuart Greenfield said Thames Valley Police would be playing a supportive role.

He added: "Our main aim is to ensure the safety of those attending.

"It will be an occasion for the whole town to enjoy and we will have police officers, PCSOs and special constables attending to help ensure the event is a true celebration of Reading FC's achievements this season."
