Berkshire traveller site petition signed by 800

More than 800 residents have signed a petition against a proposed extension to a traveller site in a Berkshire village.
The signatures from Waltham St Lawrence protesters were given to Windsor and Maidenhead council ahead of a cabinet meeting to discuss the Pool Lane site.
Councillor David Evans said the petition was "a clear warning" that residents would "fight all the way".
The council said it intended to bring the petition to cabinet in June.
The traveller site in question is part of a council-owned field between Waltham St Lawrence and Shurlock Row.
In December 2011 the council earmarked one acre (0.4 hectares) for a possible expansion.
Councillor Carwyn Cox, who is also against the plans, said: "The proposed site fails on three grounds - it's in the green belt, it's in a flood zone and the road access is inadequate."
Simon Hurrell, Royal Borough Of Windsor and Maidenhead Borough Council's head of planning and development, said: "We have received a petition and noted its contents."
