Swans shot in Windsor in 'horrific' attack

Three swans have suffered "horrific injuries" after being shot in Berkshire.

A passer-by found the first injured animal at the Promenade, in Barry Avenue, Windsor, and called police on Tuesday morning.

Officers then found a further two swans with pellet wounds, believed to have been from an air gun. One had been shot through the head.

They are all being treated at a rescue centre in Eton.

Wendy Hermon, co-ordinator at the Swan Lifeline centre, said: "The one who was shot in the head is still not out of the woods yet.

'Immense suffering'

"It lasted last night so it's in with a good chance.

"The police have been absolutely amazing and are doing their best to catch the people who did this."

When the swans, which belong to the Crown, have fully recovered they will be released back into the wild.

Sgt Tamara Tatton, of Thames Valley Police, said: "Horrific injuries have been caused to the swans, causing them immense suffering."

She appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
