Chinese firm Huawei relocates to Reading's Green Park

Chinese telecoms company Huawei is relocating from Hampshire to Berkshire in order to accommodate more staff, it has announced.

The firm will move its headquarters from the current offices in Basingstoke to Green Park in Reading in April 2013.

Huawei said the move would allow the company to grow from 800 to 1,500 employees over the next five years.

It said the Thames Valley provided the best location in terms of transport links and being near to its customers.

Victor Zhang, chief executive of Huawei Technologies UK, said the move was the first step in a £1.3bn investment and procurement programme in the UK.

He added: "We opened our first office in here in 2001 and the decision to move to a new headquarters reinforces our long term commitment to the UK.

"Green Park is at the heart of the Britain's communications and technology industry, is well located for some of our major customers, has excellent transport links and is the right location for us as we continue our UK expansion."
