Motorists have been warned to expect delays as work to resurface 17 major roads around Reading begins.
The project is costing £1.2m and is expected to be completed by the end of the school summer holidays.
The council says the work is necessary to repair serious potholes caused by last summer's heavy rainfall followed by a cold winter.
Contractors began work earlier on Rotherfield Way, Caversham which is expected to last throughout the week.
