In pictures: Bracknell's Brutalist architecture captured

A third of Bracknell's town centre will be demolished to make way for a new regenerated town centre.

The Berkshire town centre looks "like the set of a zombie film" as it awaits demolition, says Dr Steve Musson, a retail expert for Reading University.

Units in the Broadway and Crossway areas have been stripped out in preparation for the demolition.

Bracknell was one of the wave of new towns planned to create housing after World War II.

The town centre is an example of Brutalist architecture, popular from the 1950s to the mid-1970s.

Bracknell Forest Society has been in talks with the council about moving existing works of public art during the town centre redevelopment

Dr Musson said the new development was "really exciting" for Bracknell because the existing buildings had become dated.

Marks & Spencer and Cineworld have been confirmed as "anchor tenants" for the new shopping centre.
