Workmen have started repairs to the tallest building in Reading after a panel on its roof was damaged in storms on Christmas Eve.

The damage to the office block The Blade caused Abbey Street to be closed due to fears of falling debris.

Richard Black captured workmen earlier on a lifting platform before the damaged panel was removed.

The work had been delayed over Christmas and new year by high winds and contractors waiting for equipment.

Abbey Street has since reopened to traffic and pedestrians.

The Blade, which opened in April 2009, is 14-storeys tall and measures 86m (282ft) in height.
