A pet cat has been deliberately beheaded and had its tail cut off in Reading, police have said.

Ozzy's headless body was discovered in Westwood Road, Tilehurst, on Tuesday morning. His head and tail have not been found.

A vet said the cat's injuries were caused by a person and were not the result of being hit by a car or being attacked by another animal.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for information.

Investigating officer Christopher Stapleton said: "The fact that someone could do this to a defenceless animal really beggars belief.

"This has had a big impact on the owner, who has lot their pet that they cared about."
