A Berkshire lake popular with walkers has been fenced off over fears people are swimming in its dangerous waters.

Deans Farm Lake is located close to the Thames and Kennet Marina, and housing near Henley Road.

Its owner Tarmac has blocked access to it concerned the cold temperature of the water may cause a fatal incident.

Alan Everard, its head of estates for the south region, said he wanted to "reinforce the message" the lakes were not suitable for recreational use.

"People may feel they are strong swimmers but the disabling impact of swimming and immersing yourself in these cold waters can lead to you getting into difficulties," he said.
