Aston Williams police crash death: Officers face no charges

Two police officers involved in a car crash in which a 28-year-old man was struck and killed will not face criminal charges.

Aston McLean Williams was hit by a marked police car as it responded to a burglary in Eastern Avenue, Reading, in 2014.

The father-of-two died at the scene.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) recommended the two Thames Valley officers should face gross misconduct hearings.

The two officers - a constable who was driving the police car and a second constable who was in close proximity to Mr McLean in the early hours of 6 August, 2014 - were the subject of an 18-month investigation.

Thames Valley Police said in a statement it was making arrangements for the misconduct hearings.
