A council has agreed to sell public playing fields to allow a free school to be built.
Reading Borough Council approved plans for part of Mapledurham Recreation Ground to be used as Heights Primary School's permanent home on Tuesday.
This came after the Education Funding Agency (EFA) said it would pay £1.36m for the site.
Campaigners have previously threatened to take legal action if the playing fields were developed.
Pupils have been taught in temporary buildings in Caversham since September 2014 while the school's future was decided.
The EFA identified Mapledurham playing fields as its chosen plot for the school in August 2015.
