Goring and Streatley: Bridge closed as gas main repair works start

The bridge closure is in place for nine days and is expected to re-open on Monday 30 October
Work to repair a gas main has partially closed a bridge connecting Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
Motorists will have to use an 11-mile (18km) diversion while Goring and Streatley Bridge is shut over half term.
It comes after traders said they were not notified by gas firm SGN, causing frustration among local businesses.
A spokesperson for the company said the work was urgent and apologised for the inconvenience.
The bridge closure is in place for nine days and is expected to re-open on Monday 30 October.
SGN is working to repair leaks found on the gas main in Streatley High Street near the entrance to The Swan Hotel.

Pangbourne Parish Council warned motorists to expect more traffic while the work takes place over half term week
Local traders said they have no issue with the works needing to take place, but they are "disappointed" by the lack of communication.
Peter McDonald, owner of Goring Hardware Store Limited, said: "I think the reality is the diversion isn't going to work, we are anticipating quite a severe drop in footfall.
"I'm frustrated because of the communication and disappointed at the council's maintenance, so now they have to do major work."
Phil Kingsland, from Pierreponts Cafe in Goring, added: "The half-term week is usually quite busy for us, it's a nice little boost and we've already seen the numbers are down.
"I found out about three or four days before it was due to happen on a Facebook post, not from the company. It's just a bit frustrating really."

Goring and Streatley Bridge crosses the Thames and connects the two villages' high streets
An SGN spokesperson said: "We have arranged for this work to be carried out during the October half term when there is less traffic on the road.
"We have already contacted local councillors, MPs, emergency services, schools and parish councillors so that they are able to share details of our work with their local contacts.
"Letters to residents and businesses along the High Street were delivered over the weekend.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience our urgent works may cause."
West Berkshire Council and Oxfordshire County Council have been approached for comment.
