Newbury Fireworks Spectacular: Hundreds complained of 'nightmare' parking
- Published
Hundreds of families have taken to social media to complain about "nightmare" car parking at a fireworks display.
People complained of delays of up to two hours to get in and out of Sunday's event at the Newbury Showground.
One said it had put a "downer" on the night, while another said they gave up waiting.
Organisers Xplosive Events apologised and thanked people for their "patience and understanding".
Attendee Carey Taylor said on Xplosive Events Group on Facebook: "It took us over an hour to get in and out of the event when we live seven minutes away."
Nay Kellman said it was her first time at the fireworks and her family would "definitely not be returning" as it was "such a shambles".
She said they left the event at 20:20 GMT but did not move from the car park for two hours.
"By the time we got to the exit, there where no marshals directing the traffic - it was an absolute nightmare and such a downer on a great evening out," she added.
Chloe Sayer said: "It was a good event but leaving the car park with two screaming children was an absolute nightmare."
While Daniel Fry-Maguire said he "turned around in the end" because traffic was not moving and what should have been a 40 minute journey turned into three hours.
At the time, organisers said: "To those caught up in the congestion, we're sincerely sorry for the inconvenience."
They later added: "We apologise for the unexpected delay to the fireworks and for the traffic issues caused by unforeseen circumstances in the area.
"Your patience and understanding mean the world to us."
