A man, dog and guinea pig have been rescued from a house fire.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews to the scene on Enborne Road in Newbury, where a first floor bedroom was alight, at about 13:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The man received "immediate emergency care" and was placed in the care of South Central Ambulance Service, the fire service said.

It took firefighters just over an hour to extinguish the blaze.

The fire service said the accidental fire was "most likely caused by an electrical item which was on charge in the bedroom."
