Residents in part of Reading will soon have access to a new community centre.

Whitley Wood Community Centre has been moved from an old temporary building to a new one while the council continues to look for a permanent site.

Reading Borough Council said the "outdated" structure in Swallowfield Drive had reached the end of its life.

The new, larger facility in Lexington Grove was unveiled in March and will be officially opened to the public with a programme of activities this month.

Micky Leng, the council's assets and planning lead, said: "There will be some introductory and taster sessions for residents to enjoy and try out before a regular programme of sessions is set for the centre."

He said the activities were intended to connect residents with community groups to help provide them with additional support and improve their lifestyles.
