A heavily pregnant woman from the West Midlands who went missing almost two weeks ago was found going into labour by the side of a road in Blackpool.

Louise Byng, 40, from Dorridge, in Solihull, was last seen on 15 September in Leamington Spa, Warks, police said.

But she was found almost 100 miles away in the early hours of Sunday by a member of the public and taken to hospital where she gave birth to a boy.

Police said it is unclear why she went to Blackpool as she has no links there.

'Safe and well'

Det Sgt Neil Wood, from West Midlands Police said her family is relieved she is safe after initial concerns for her and her unborn baby.

"She had no connections with the Blackpool area so it's unclear why she travelled so far away from home at this late stage in her pregnancy," he said.

"Everyone is just relieved that she's safe and well.

"Louise and her son will be staying with her parents for the foreseeable future."
