BT call centre 'to create 450 jobs' in West Bromwich

More than 400 jobs are to be created in the Black Country with the opening of a new BT call centre.

It will be based in a new £75m business centre in West Bromwich which forms part of a £200m regeneration of the borough of Sandwell, the council said.

The centre, by the A41 Expressway and Cronehills Linkway, is set to open in autumn next year.

BT said it wanted to ensure as many of the new posts as possible are filled by people from Sandwell.

Neil Rogers, president of BT Global Services for government and health, said: "In the coming months, we will be working with the local authority and other organisations running re-skilling programmes here, to ensure as many of the new posts as possible are filled by Sandwell people."

Councillor Darren Cooper, leader of Sandwell Council, said he hoped the announcement would act as a catalyst for driving further investment.

Details about the vacancies will be available in the New Year, the council added.
