A grant of £894,000 has been awarded to Thinktank, Birmingham's science museum, to create a new gallery which focuses on the city's manufacturing history.
The Heritage Lottery Fund will give the money to cover 44 per cent of the project costs so that previously unseen collections can go on show.
The new gallery, called Made in Birmingham, will include five displays containing up to 1,200 objects.
It is expected to open to the public in December 2012.
