A deal has been agreed to build a Sainsbury's store as part of a £70m development in south-west Birmingham.

St Modwen said it signed a deal over a 85,000 sq ft (7,900 sq m) site at the proposed Longbridge town centre scheme.

Subject to planning consent being granted, the store off Longbridge Lane - which it is hoped will create about 400 jobs - is expected to open by Easter 2013, St Modwen said.

The planned Longbridge development includes 24 new shops and restaurants.

A planning application for the store project was submitted to the city council in February, St Modwen said.
