Mother's regret over Birmingham sex abuse nursery

The mother of a three-year-old girl at the nursery said there was confusion after Wilson's arrest

A mother has told of her regret at sending her three-year-old daughter to a nursery in Birmingham where a member of staff has since admitted he raped a child.

Nursery assistant Paul Wilson, 20, of Newbold Croft in Nechells, Birmingham, admitted two counts of raping a child.

He was arrested at his home on 5 January this year, and the nearby Little Stars Nursery was immediately closed.

The three-year-old's mother, who is not being named to protect the girl's identity, said being told of the closure of the nursery "was the shock of my life".

Her daughter, who is not connected to the court case, "was always excited and enthusiastic about going to nursery," she said.

But on the day the nursery closed, the parents faced confusing scenes.

"Nobody there gave us any straight answers.

"They tried to tell us they would sort it out and that they wanted to investigate."

Although her daughter was not involved in Wilson's legal case, she said she saw the little girl as "prey" for him and would always worry that something had happened.

"Little children can't speak for themselves."

"My little girl, she couldn't speak, she couldn't tell me what was going on or if she has been abused by this gentleman. I just don't know."
