Birmingham firms gearing up for 2012 visits

Businesses in Birmingham are gearing up for two of the strongest of the Olympic athletics teams to visit the city.

The Jamaican and US track and field teams will be based in the city for the 2012 Games.

One business which makes Jamaican patties is developing a new product in the hope of benefiting from the influx.

Another firm, Firmins of Birmingham, provides military uniforms and is hoping to build on contracts signed with the Jamaican Ministry of Justice.

A drive to increase trade between Jamaica and the UK - Meet Jamaica 2012 - was launched earlier this year.

Wade Lyn, who started up his pattie firm in 1988, said the Jamaican team's visit will raise the profile of the country's food, culture and music.

"The Jamaican team coming to Birmingham is a big showcase for us Jaimacans," he said.

"We feel proud Brmingham is hosting the team."
