Birmingham New Street: Academy set up for local jobs
- Published
An academy has been set up in Birmingham to help local people get jobs on the New Street station redevelopment.
According to Network Rail, the New Street project is worth £400m to the construction industry and will create up to 1,000 jobs while work is ongoing.
The new Birmingham Gateway Construction Academy will provide training for potential and existing workers.
The £598m station revamp is due to be finished in 2015.
Academy training will take place at South Birmingham College and at Birmingham Gateway Project's offices.
The project team is working closely with Birmingham City Council to "open up" job opportunities for local people, Network Rail said.
