Wolverhampton City Council has launched a new apprenticeship scheme.

Thirty 16 to 18-year-olds will be recruited, with 15 starting in February and a further 15 in September.

They include positions in horticulture, arboriculture, building, electrical services, cleaning, catering and administration.

Councillor Phil Page said: "It's very important the council plays a vital role in helping to alleviate the impact of rising youth unemployment."

The council said it will be recruiting the apprentices based on a one-year fixed term contract on a salary of £7,800.
